Our church has been doing a series called "21 Days of Fasting & Prayer."
We were encouraged to spend more time praying and reading our Bibles. We were also encouraged to temporarily give up something. I'm not sure that I understand everything about it but I think the willingness to sacrifice something in order to have more time with God is pleasing to Him.
I think it is important to remember that we can't "earn" our way to heaven. What Jesus did on the cross is the one and only way for eternal life in heaven.
I don't know much about Lent but several of my blog friends have been delving into the subject. I think what we are being taught in our church sounds a lot like Lent.
Being raised in the Baptist church was great but I wish we had been encouraged to take this opportunity every Easter and seek God on a deeper level. I think it makes Easter more special.

I've been trying to come up with something that I think would be a pleasing sacrifice and I just can't think of anything that I think God really wants me to give up. He gave me a few pleasures in life, one being Diet Coke. I asked Him if He'd like me to give it up and He was emphatic when He replied "No." I could give up my computer but does He want that? I could deny myself of my shows I love but I have a DVR so is that really a sacrifice? I will ponder the subject a little more.
All that to say, I love Easter! The whole season is wonderful. Spring time brings new blooms and green grass. Warmer weather is always on my wish list. I love celebrating the Resurrection, which separates Christianity from all other religions.
I did receive my new Pottery Barn catalog in the mail today & got my tax return too. I think it's a sign.
